ALDO BAKKER
A Dutch product and furniture designer, Bakker began his career as a jewellery designer, but quickly changed his focus to industrial design as he became increasingly fascinated with the interaction of materials and bodies. He designs porcelain and metal tableware, wooden chairs and benches, and other objects at his studio in Amsterdam.
Dedicated to form over function, he bases his designs on unexpected shapes he encounters in passing rather than a traditional design canon. Bakker only tweaks the objects to ensure optimal functionality after the forms and materials are perfected.
Bakker has created commissioned works for brands Georg Jensen, Karakter, Puiforcat, Sèvres and Swarovski. His pieces are in the permanent collections of museums around the world, including the Moma, Cooper Hewitt, Centre Pompidou, Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, and Victoria & Albert.
